How to play Higher or Lower

Toyoholic is a higher-or-lower guessing game about the strange economics of old toys. Two collectibles sit side by side. One has its price on show; the other is a mystery. All you have to do is decide which way the mystery one falls.

  1. Look at the toy on the left and the price it goes for.
  2. Call Higher or Lower for the mystery toy on the right — tap the buttons, or use the up and down arrow keys.
  3. Guess right and the mystery toy becomes the new benchmark, with a fresh mystery beside it. Your streak climbs.
  4. Guess wrong and the run ends. Your best streak is remembered so you always have a number to beat.

Where the vintage toy prices come from

Every round is built from real vintage and antique toy listings on eBay, pulled in live through the eBay Browse API rather than typed up from a price guide. That is what makes the game genuinely hard: the market decides, and the market is not always sensible. A battered tin robot can outrun a mint-in-box action figure, and a doll that looks like nothing can quietly be worth four figures.

After each guess the toy's price is revealed along with a couple of things worth knowing about it, plus a link straight to the listing so you can check the number for yourself. Prices move as listings come and go, so no two runs play the same way.

What kind of toys you'll see

The deck leans old rather than merely out of print. Expect the sort of thing that turns up at estate sales and in lofts:

Frequently asked questions

Is Toyoholic free to play?

Yes. Toyoholic is completely free, runs in your browser, and needs no account, download or sign-up. Your streak and personal best are stored on your own device, not on a server.

Where do the vintage toy prices come from?

Each round is built from real vintage and antique toy listings on eBay, pulled live through the eBay Browse API. Every toy links straight through to its listing so you can check the price for yourself.

Which kinds of toys show up in the game?

Genuinely old ones: tin wind-up toys, cast iron banks and vehicles, pressed steel trucks, Fisher-Price pull toys, diecast cars, antique dolls and teddy bears, and classic action figures. Modern collectibles are filtered out.

How do you play Higher or Lower?

You see two toys side by side. The left one shows its price; the right one is hidden. Call whether the mystery toy is worth more or less. Get it right and it becomes the new benchmark for the next round. Get it wrong and the run is over.

Can I play Toyoholic on my phone?

Yes. The game is built mobile-first, with big tap targets for Higher and Lower. You can also install it to your home screen and play it like an app.

What is a good streak in Toyoholic?

Anything past three shows a real eye for value, and seven or more puts you in toy-whisperer territory. Because prices are drawn from live listings, no two runs are the same.
